Trip down memory lane....favorite artists I discovered during my collegiate and post-grad days. The songs I use to listen to when biking around campus, studying, meditating, pre-partying...
1) "WAKE ME WHEN IT'S OVER" - LONGWAVE
First listened to them play live at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Fast forward a few years later, and I'm rockin' out to them at Prince's old stomping grounds: First Ave (Minneapolis, Minnesota). To this day, I still know all the songs by heart.
2) "DO YOU REALIZE??" - FLAMING LIPS
I love the lyrics to this song:
"And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round"
3) "CHERISH THE DAY" - SADE
Voice + songs + video = perfection. One of my favorite artists of all time.
4) "STRICT MACHINE" - GOLDFRAPP
Knee high leather boots + riding a Ducati down the autobahn kind of music......
5) "MAN WITH THE RED FACE" - LAURENT GARNIER
Found this on vinyl in a record store (Gramaphone Records) in downtown Chicago. This is the reason I fell in love with electronic music. Later I would be dancing to LG's music live at the epic club "THE END" in London. RIP.
6) "LOWER YOUR EYELIDS TO DIE WITH THE SUN" - M83
Best road trip + traveling music. Was lucky enough to hear him play live at the 400 Bar - University of Minnesota with dear friend Lani Hanson.
